Whereas by an Act of this Island bearing date the twelfth day of May one thousand eight hundred and one entitled An Act to increase the sums made payable by former laws on the manumission of Slaves for their better support and maintenance. It is enacted that on the manumission of every female Slave the Sum of Three hundred pounds Current money shall be paid by the person manumitting the said female Slave into the hands of the Church Warden for the time being of the Parish wherein such person shall reside, and that several Church Wardens shall annually pay to every female Slave so manumitted in their respective Parishes the Sum of Eighteen Pounds Current money for their maintenance and support and that on the manumission of every Male Slave the sum of two hundred pounds current money shall be paid by the person manumitting the said Male Slave into the hands of the Church Warden for the time being of the Parish wherein such person shall reside, and that several Church Wardens shall annually pay every Male Slave so manumitted in their respective Parishes the sum of twelve pounds current money for his maintenance and support And whereas the payment of the aforesaid sums of money may impede the granting of freedom to faithful and meritorious Slaves. Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency Sir James Leith Knight Grand Cross of the most Honorable military order for the Bath, His Majesty’s Captain General and Governor in chief of this Island Chancellor ordinary and Vice Admiral of the same The Honorable the Members of His Majesty’s council the General Assembly of this Island and by the authority of the same- That from and after the passing of this Act the Act entitled an Act to increase the Sums made payable by former laws on the manumission of Slaves for their better support and maintenance and every part thereof shall hereby repealed and made null and void.
