Whereas several Negries and slaves belonging to several persons In this Island may be Commanded upon several Emmergent Occasions in the service of the Country, whereby they may Loose their Life or Limbe to the Great Damage and Lose of Their Owners
It is therefore ordained Established and Enacted by the Governor Counsell and Assembly and by the Authority of the same, That all and Every such Negro or slave that shall be killed or slaine or maimed In the service of the Country: And that shall be Thereupon Commanded by the Authority of ye same, shall be paid for and satisfied unto the Master and owner of such Negro or Slave, that shall be so killed or Maimed, out of the Publique Treasury according to the valuation of Two Indifferent persons to be Appointed by the Governor. Dated the 14th day of August 1672.
